ShopRite of Flemington recently hosted members of the Sustainable Hunterdon Hub for a field visit and information session about their experience installing Electrify America electric vehicle charging stations.
Mr. Joe Colallilo, President of ShopRite of Hunterdon County Inc., and Andrew Pittel, Manager of Real Estate at Wakefern Food Corporation, along with Luke Zabrowsky, Project Manager for Electrify America, discussed the process of installing the Level 3 DC Fast Charging stations, which can charge a vehicle in about 20 minutes.
Jeff Vaccarella, Raritan Township Planner, and Donna Drewes, Raritan Township Planning Board Member, also attended to discuss the project from the municipal perspective and the township’s ordinance requirements.
They explained that the process, from initial concept to installation, took approximately five years. However, all agreed it was worth the effort.
“The stations are well used,” said Colallilo. “There is rarely a time that I don’t see at least one or two cars charging.” This observation was confirmed by Luke Zabrowsky from Electrify America: “When the chargers were first installed, we recorded around 500 sessions per month. Today, we are recording 1,100 sessions per month.”
The Sustainable Hunterdon Hub, facilitated by goHunterdon, provides a forum for information sharing and collaboration among local Green Teams, training opportunities, and updates on Sustainable Jersey municipal program actions.
