Motorists Value goHunterdon Traffic Alert Service

goHunterdon’s free Traffic Alert Service (TAS) provides weekday alerts on traffic congestion, traffic accidents, construction closures & detours, weather-related travel conditions, and other relevant travel information to commuters traveling to or through Hunterdon County, NJ. Alerts are provided for local, county, state, and interstate roadways via email on weekdays, from 6:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.

The goal of the free service, made possible with funding from the North Jersey Transportation Planning Authority, is to reduce traffic congestion, improve air quality, and increase safety.

goHunterdon conducts an annual survey of the more than 3,800 subscribers to the service to evaluate the impact of the Traffic Alert Service on motorist behaviors and to gain insight into commute experiences. The following provides a summary of the responses from the 2024 survey.

Subscriber Profile

  • 67% live in Hunterdon County, followed by 16% in Warren County, and 11% in Northampton County, PA.
  • 37% work in Hunterdon County, followed by 22% in Somerset County and 9% in Union County.
  • 98% report that the alerts are useful to them personally.
  • 92% indicate that the goHunterdon Traffic Alert Service is their primary source of information for monitoring traffic, followed by Google Maps (41% ), Waze App (39% ), and Radio (37%).
  • 41% report that they are commuting to a worksite. 31% working a “hybrid” schedule with both onsite and remote days. 4% are teleworking full time.
  • 72% use goHunterdon’s Traffic Alert Service primarily for work-related purposes.
  • 59% indicate that they have been subscribers to goHunterdon’s Traffic Alert Service for 5 years or more.

Response to Alerts

  • 49% of respondents review alerts for their own use only. 45% review for their own use and forward alerts to others.
  • 94% of those who forward alerts to others send them to 1-5 people.
  • In response to receiving an “Incident” alert, 92% of respondents “Take a Different Route”; 47% “Leave at a Different Time”; 17% “Work from Home”.
  • In response to receiving a “Congestion” alert, 82% of respondents “Take a Different Route”; 43% “Leave at a Different Time”; 9% “Work from Home”.
  • In response to receiving a “Construction” alert, 76% of respondents “Take a Different Route”; 38% “Leave at a Different Time”; 23% “Take a Posted Detour”; 16% “No Change”; 8% “Work from Home”.

  • 94% rate the Availability of alerts as “Good/Excellent”.
  • 97% rate the Timeliness of alerts as “Good/Excellent”.
  • 97% rate the Detail of alerts as “Good/Excellent”.
  • 95% rate the Frequency of Updates as “Good/Excellent”.
