For area commuters, goHunterdon’s free Traffic Alert Service is an essential part of the daily drive.
The service provides weekday email alerts about traffic congestion, crashes, construction closures and detours, weather-related travel conditions, and other roadway incidents affecting travel to and through Hunterdon County. Alerts cover local, county, state, and interstate roadways during peak commuting hours—6:00 to 8:00 a.m. and 3:30 to 5:30 p.m.—helping travelers make informed decisions before they hit the road.
The goals of the program are to improve safety, reduce traffic congestion, and support cleaner air by helping motorists avoid delays and plan alternate routes when needed.
A recent annual survey of more than 3,800 subscribers highlights just how valuable the service has become. Nearly one-third (30%) of respondents identified goHunterdon’s Traffic Alert Service as their primary source for information on traffic incidents, construction activity, and weather-related road conditions. Subscriber loyalty is equally impressive, with 66% reporting they have relied on the service for five years or more.
The survey also provides a snapshot of the people who depend on the alerts each day:
- Where subscribers live: 68% live in Hunterdon County, followed by 14% in Warren County and 8% in Northampton County, Pennsylvania.
- Where subscribers work: 41% work in Hunterdon County, followed by 24% in Somerset County and 7% in Union County.
- Why they subscribe: 67% use the alerts primarily for commuting or other work-related travel.
One subscriber summed up the value of the program, “I appreciate these traffic alerts so much. It’s quick and easy to read the alert because it provides just enough information to help me decide how I’ll commute to and from work that day.”
