On April 16, 2024 members of the Hunterdon County Board of County Commissioners presented goHunterdon with funding in the amount of $100,000 through a special Non Profit Grant program created by the Board of County Commissioners in fall 2023. Funding for the grant program came from State and Local Recovery Funds, received by Hunterdon County under the American Rescue Plan. goHunterdon Welcomes New Bicycle Specialist
goHunterdon welcomes Lani Diemicke to the role of part time Bicycle Specialist.
“We are so happy to have Lani join the goHunterdon staff, just in time for the start of National Bike Month, promoted by the League of American Bicyclists and celebrated in communities from coast to coast throughout the month of May,” says Tara Shepherd, goHunterdon Executive Director.
Lani will be supporting goHunterdon’s Bike Hunterdon initiative. She will work to promote Hunterdon County as a bicycle tourism destination, manage social media promotion and content development for the www.bikehunterdon.org, administer the Cyclists Welcome program, and provide assistance at community and school based bicycle events. goHunterdon Participating in Hunterdon County Local Safety Action Plan Development
The Hunterdon County Department of Planning and Land Use is developing a Local Safety Action Plan to improve safety on county and municipal roadways in Hunterdon County. This safety plan is being developed with support from the North Jersey Transportation Planning Authority (NJTPA).
Local Safety Action Plans create a framework for focusing safety activities toward addressing the most pressing needs and matching safety problems with effective solutions. They are an important call to action to reduce and eventually eliminate fatal and serious injury crashes on all roadways. Traffic Gardens Provide Unique Learning Spaces for Bicycle and Pedestrian Education
“Traffic gardens” have been installed at High Bridge Elementary School and Milford Public School in support of bicycle and pedestrian safety education programs. A third traffic garden is planned at Hampton Public School with an anticipated install date early next school year.
A traffic garden is a set of small-sized streets with scaled-down traffic features and elements where children practice using streets in a place that is free from motor vehicles.
